Natural gas purchase and sale framework agreement signed between China and Uzbekistan

On June 9, witnessed by Chinese President Hu Jintao and Uzbek President Islam Karimov, CNPC President Jiang Jiemin and Uzbekneftegaz Board Chairman Ulugbek Nazarov signed a framework agreement on the purchase and sale of natural gas in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan. The governments of the two nations also inked a MOU on expanding cooperation in natural gas sector.

Based on the agreement, Uzbekistan will supply 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China annually. The two countries will make joint efforts to link Uzbekistan's gas pipeline network with the Uzbekistan-China gas pipeline, which is part of the Central Asia-China Gas Pipeline.

Before signing the agreement, Mr. Jiang Jiemin met with Uzbekistan's First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Azimov and Uzbekneftegaz Board Chairman Ulugbek Nazarov respectively. They exchanged ideas on expanding cooperation in the natural gas sector.
