¡¡¡¡(KRC)
is a joint venture company between Ministry of Energy & Mining of
Sudan (MEM) and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) with share
of 50% for each partner.
¡¡¡¡The
Agreement for the establishment of the joint venture was signed on 1st
March 1997, execution started on 26th May 1998 and the Refinery started
production on 16th May 2000.
¡¡¡¡The
objective of establishing KRC is to process Sudanese indigenous crude
oil to cover the needs of Sudan petroleum products.
¡¡¡¡The
Board of Director of KRC consists of 8 directors, and each party is
represented by 4 directors.
¡¡¡¡KRC
location is unique as it lies 70km north of Khartoum, 13km from the
eastern bank of The River Nile and close to Nile Blend Crude pipeline,
the old product pipeline, the railway linking Port Sudan and Khartoum
and El Tahadi highway linking Atbara and Khartoum.
¡¡¡¡The
Refinery was originally designed to process 50,000 bbl of crude oil
per day. However, due to the increasing demand of products especially
diesel , both shareholders decided to increase the processing capacity
in two phases-Phase I was put into operation on 14th Sept. 2004 adding
12,000 bbl/d to the original capacity while Phase II was put into operation
on 30th June 2006 making the overall processing capacity of KRC 100,000
bbl/d.
¡¡¡¡The
Refinery occupied an area of 0.86 km2 and the main production units
are Atmospheric Crude Distillation Unit (CDU), Delayed Coking unit (DCU),
Residue Fluidic Catalytic Cracking Unit (RFCC), Reforming Unit (SCR),
Diesel Hydro-treating Unit (DHT), Jet-A1 unit, Coker Gasoline and Diesel
Hydro-treating Unit (GDHT) and Continuous Catalyst Regeneration Reforming
Unit (CCR). KRC is self dependant on utilities, besides the processing
units, it has Power Station, Water Purification Station (on the bank
of The River Nile), Air Separation & Air Compression Unit, Cooling
Water Treatment System, Boiler Feed Water Treatment System, Waste Water
Treatment System as well as Oil Movement System and Central laboratory.
